The Doctor reined his horse to a standstill. The guards, four of them, neared.

"What be your business here?"

The Doctor smiled, "Ho hum, this and that."

Though full of cheer, this was not an answer approved by the guardsmen. "Are you mocking us? How dare you!"

"Oh, no, no, no," responded the Doctor. "You misunderstand. I am a man of this and that, always on lookout for the unique and rare."

"You mean..." began a guardsman.

"Yes, I am a Collector."

The guardsmen groaned. "What is yer name?"

"Why, I am Doctor Ernest Thesiger Pretorius! At your service!"

"Let him go," said a guard. "I heard o' him, this fella was up all night in the Keep talking philosophy with all who cared to hear."

"Thank the gods twasn't me on duty!" said another of the guard and they all laughed.

"Keep yer cheer, Doctor, but answer questions the right way." And with that the Guard D'Honaire went their way.

And Doctor Pretorius went his way, which is what he had intended to do all the while. He nudged his horse and began to hum, and horse with rider started the trek which would terminate at the Doctor's home, the House of Whales (so-called for the massive bones which made up the doorway and facade of the front of the Doctor's home).

1. Dr. Pretorius makes his way home...
