"Will it be safe for us to go out?" Stacy asked, remembering the warding
symbols that
she had seen Nat chalk on the door frame. Having seen how limited Nat's
culinary skills were,
she fervently hoped that the answer would be yes. "I think so, if we take
some precautions
to prevent them locating you." "You're not going to chalk arcane symbols
on me,
are you?" Nat chuckled at that. "No. We're going to achieve a similar
effect in a rather more
practical way. Wait here for a moment. I'll be right back"
Nat returned in a couple of minutes carrying some copper bangles. "These are sold claiming to be a cure for rheumatism. I don't know whether they're effective for that, but what they will do is obscure you from anybody trying to track you using magic. Put one on each wrist and, to make doubly sure, one on each ankle." "What about you?" Stacy asked. "Oh, they can't track me. That really annoys them, I suspect." They went to a small Chinese restaurant within easy walking distance. The food was very good, and Stacy enjoyed the meal. They shared a bottle of red wine. Stacy hoped that the alcohol might loosen Nat's tongue a little, and that she might let slip a little more of what she knew.
