Astra had the unworthy thought that the party would gain whatever happened.
Even for a man, Robert was exceptionally objectionable, and she wouldn't
grieve overmuch if the berry poisoned him. On the other hand, if the
berries proved safe to eat,
then they would be a good source of food.
"Absolutely delicious," Robert pronounced, purple juice running down his chin. "We'll wait a few minutes to see if you suffer any ill effects before we try them," Fred said, a trifle tactlessly. After about ten minutes had passed, the others decided that they had waited long enough. Besides, if they delayed any longer, Robert looked capable of eating all the berries himself. So they all tucked in, everyone agreeing that the berries were the nicest fruit they had ever eaten. Their appetites sated, they resumed their trek through the jungle. About an hour later, Robert said: "I don't feel so good." That was worrying news for the others, of course. It suggested that before long they might suffer the same symptoms themselves.
