Andrea took a deep breath. The incident with the painting, although
tremendously spooky, had given her some confidence. She had handled
herself very well, and the following eyes, when confronted with her
newfound torch, caused her no further trouble. "That's why it's called
the Abandoned Castle of Spookiness," she reminded herself. "It's very
spooky, but not genuinely dangerous if one can keep one's head."
Endeavoring to do just that, Andrea thought rationally. "The Golden Dishcloth is most likely to be in the kitchen, and the kitchen is most likely up these stairs. One would not expect to have to crawl through a tiny passageway to get a midnight snack." Andrea climbed the stairs cautiously, holding the torch high. They squeaked and groaned, but seemed to hold her weight easily. Reaching the top, Andrea saw a long, dark hallway, so long and so dark that the end of it was not visible. Doors lined either side, some of which were labeled. Suddenly Andrea heard a repeated, muffled bumping coming from the second door on her left.
