Fred managed to get Alexis alone - though "alone" was strictly a relative term on a fourteen foot boat. He had something to say to her that he did not wish the others to overhear, so he spoke in a whisper: "I'm surprised Zerm didn't curse Astra as well as you." Alexis replied:

  1. "Yes, that was a little odd."
  2. "Well, I happened to be in the lead at the time, which I suppose explains it."
  3. "Ah, but he did, but her curse is slow-acting and not very obvious yet."
