I turned around and saw approaching me a man in a black cloak. The light
was too poor to see his face very well, except that his eyes seemed to
reflect
the moonlight in the most remarkable way, so that they were like two
silver orbs.
When he was about five yards away he spoke. His voice was soft but deep, and had an oddly compelling quality to it. "Touch the monolith," he said. "Huh?" I said, thinking that this was a very strange request. "I said touch the monolith," he repeated. "Now!" And he drew his sword. I only had a dagger at my belt, so I didn't have much choice but to comply, wondering whether he intended to rob me - or worse.
