Run Wild, Run Free Part Two

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1235

As Fred and Alicia walked together, Fred couldn't help but think of the bizarre events of the past few days.

~~Stupid map!~~ he thought to himself. ~~All I wanted was to kill a bloody lizard, a flailin' wyrm, a dastardly dragon.....and now I'm, I'm.....I'm a damnable human fox.~~ He stared at Alicia and once again thoughts of 'Wonderland' reappeared; he looked at his own strange feet and hands and an anger flashed out as images of the donkey-boys entered his brain. He began to laugh and cry simultaneously.

The moon rose ever higher and his skin began to tighten again, his bones trembled in the transformation. All his pensive thoughts were dispelled as the fog seeped in and his entire world was centered around his body, his senses. Dropping to the ground, he settled on all fours and lost all control as his back seized up, growing longer, more horizontal; his arms and legs stretched, realigning themselves; his hands and feet lost their human shape, curving out into thick paws. When he raised his head and bayed at that orb in the sky, even his eyes were no longer his own; he was a red-haired, smiling fox.

He ran out into the woods, barely conscious that another form was beside him, and then another, and another. Shortly an entire band of were-foxes were tramping through the woods and into a glade.

All the senses were alive; touch, sight, smell, taste, hearing; it was good to be alive.

But as they reached the open glade, they all suddenly stopped. A shadow marred the purity of the glade, a strange foreign splash of darkness exposed by the light of the full moon, exposed but not uncovered. Something was there, out there in the grasses and the foxes could only smell "danger."
