Stacy looked at the man. "You're the doctor that the... uh, that they were
taking me to see?" she asked dubiously. While she found the idea of a
five-year imprisonment for being caught smoking to be rather appalling, she
also was far less than sure about entrusting herself to a medical doctor
who was himself overweight and indulged in illict drinking and smoking. It
seemed to be setting rather a bad example, somehow... But the Doctor didn't seem bothered. "Yes, Dr. Edwards here is one of this century's top neurosurgeons, and a pioneer of memory recovery techniques that will profoundly influence the course of future technology." The man smiled modestly. "Oh, Doctor, you're too kind." He returned his attention to Stacy, and began asking her a few pointed questions about the nature and onset of her amnesia. Stacy answered him truthfully, in as much detail as she knew. She was still a little doubtful, but she'd come to trust the Doctor -- well, more or less -- and if he said this guy was all right, he was probably all right. She hoped. When she had finished answering his questions, he said:
