Stacy saw no particular reason why she should go haring off to be shot at
by murderous robot things, and she figured those four were probably better
off without her around asking questions, anyway. So she bid the other
women farewell and good luck, and settled herself in for a nice, quiet
wait. Time passed. Stacy spent some time looking over the controls on the strange console in the middle of the room -- they seemed at the same time both hideously complicated and rather clunky and primitive -- but she was afraid to touch anything. She noticed that the map of the subway tunnels the others had been pouring over was still displayed on the screen. More time passed. Stacy was beginning to get bored and restless, and also a little worried. Surely they would have been back by now, unless something had gone wrong?
