Then he noticed that the light was too bright, and shining directly in his eyes. Then there was darkness again. A long time passed...

Josh opened his eyes and looked at gravel. He moved some, painfully, and saw that it was very late at night and he was lying on the side of a road. Slowly, tentatively, he stood up and stretched his tired muscles. He felt as though he'd been in the fetal position for hours. He looked down and saw he was wearing a t-shirt, jeans and running shoes. The t-shirt was the one he was wearing when... but he couldn't remember.

Josh looked around, and saw no sign of civilization whatsoever. Not even a McDonald's. Good God, he thought, I am in the middle of nowhere. Gazing into the endless night sky, he found the North Star. The two lane road he was on led to the east and west.
