The King Keeps a Cool Head

The King then asked Fred some questions, and learned about the double entrance, the bear, the lava man, Melissa, and Fred and Melissa's teleportation to this place. The King was silent for a moment, and said, "We are still alive. The Dragon either wants something from us, or is not as much in charge as he may appear. Otherwise he could easily have killed us. I can make guesses, but for now, we will just stay alive and gather information.

"Your Highness, was the dragon alone when he released you?"

"Quite so."

"Were your fetters like ours? I didn't see the dragon - only heard his laughter. I thought of dragons as strong, dangerous, but not able to manipulate something a fine as a lock and key."

"He took one of his front paws and just squeezed the cuffs. They popped right off. I admit that I was not expecting that."

"Can he talk? Did he tell you anything?"

The King replied,

1. "The Dragon was silent. He just released me and went on his way."
2. "The Dragon can talk like you or I can."
3. "Funny. I hadn't thought of it until you brought it up, but I heard his voice, but it wasn't like it was speaking like you or I speak."
