Somehow, Gigi had become very used to her routine. As she'd continue to be nice and cooperative, Regon had eased up on her a bit, and she'd become more comfortable. So, even though near the beginning she may have been excited at the idea, now, it was just killing things with her mouth, which she hated. At least, until Regon noticed, and told her, "Enjoy this. Get wholly into it. Focus on your prey, and relish in taking it down. Be a hunting dog." After which point, she did all of these things. It was several months of training to gain these new skills, and Regon wasn't so used to hunting either, so it was a bit of a stuttering process. During this time, they celebrated Gigi's arbitrarily chosen but more or less accurate tenth birthday. She was getting a bit up there, and was beginning to feel her age, and became constantly consumed by the worry that she would die as a dog. Finally, about a month later, and almost three seasons after her training had begun, Regon sat down on the floor with her and said frankly, "Gigi, I've done it." She froze. He nodded. "I've perfected my spell. I'm ready to use it on the dragon." She remained tense, waiting for him to finish, her heart pounding. "And you're going to come with me to cast it." Her eyes widened, and her heart stopped. She still didn't move. "The dragon has a large territory with many cultists and goblins and wolves... and I made you everything you are. I can trust you. We will sneak through the dragon's land, swiftly dispatching of anyone or anything that may see us, and get to the dragon. And then all this can end." It very rarely happened, but she found herself panting and wagging her tail, entirely on her own. The only thing that niggled at her mind was... he hadn't mentioned the possibility of freeing her since he'd first transformed her years ago. Now seemed a natural time to bring it up again, but still he didn't. But either way, it was her only chance. The dragon's territory was several weeks away, but Regon was a smart traveler, not to mention, of course, a powerful mage.
