"There now," said the hag, pleased, as she turned back to a horrified Cinnamon. "She'll continue to grow, and inkberries live, oh, we'll say about half the lifetimes of humans, so that growth will be twice as fast - I'm just saying, if you don't want too much time lost in translation when it's time for you to restore her, then best learn fast, hmm?" Cinnamon was breaking down in tears already, but she had to focus herself - she had to do whatever was necessary to bring back her daughter. But with her absentmindedness, this would be a trial indeed. The hag taught her, but quickly developed a habit: every time she forgot something or otherwise frustrated the hag, she would alter her pupil's appearance subtly, usually just adding a wart or slightly altering the size of some body part, but in times of great annoyance she might knock out a tooth or do something equally unsightly. Poor Cinnamon grew more hideous by the day, and the young inkberry shrub slowly grew larger.
