Poor Nina was the victim of many spells before she was even potty trained. Normally, the hag would jolt her with pain that left no mark but was terrible nonetheless, or do something strange and cruel to her body like take away her mouth for a day, put her ears on the palms of her hands, or make all her hair fall out. She learned to listen quickly to everythhing the hag told her to do, out of terrible fear. The only good that ever happened was on the rare occasion when Nina was alone with Pot Pie, to whom she would talk about how much she wanted to get out of here. She didn't remember that the chicken was her mother, but Pot Pie was overjoyed when she got a chance to be with her child for a bit. Nina was four years old when
