Fred swallowed. At this point, it looked like her best chances for continuing to pursue her quest lay in playing along and, once she was released, trying to find help elsewhere. This was going to be very difficult, to pretend to be remembering a life that wasn't real - or, even if she didn't do that, to pretend not to believe in the life that she knew she had once had - but it seemed she was pinned beneath Arahim's disbelief of the truth. She could only nod her understanding. The very next day she was placed in the palace staff and given clothes to wear on the job: a long blue dress and a white head covering. She didn't particularly care for covering her beautiful hair, but the outfit was modest, and really lovely enough; it certainly didn't obscure her beauty. She took a moment to be alarmed, yet again, at how natural these considerations felt, but she was quickly becoming used to them. And so it began. She already knew her way around the castle, but she never made this obvious as she was shown around. What she definitely did not know was cleaning procedures; to a knight, these were altogether foreign, but what could she do but learn them as best she could? As she went about the workday, she was given a great deal of attention by all the teenaged boys in their comings and goings through the castle, and she always loved it, though the feeling of wrongness that always followed the interactions never quite faded. The hardest parts were her regular conversations with Arahim, who wanted to know where she was mentally. She mostly claimed not to have remembered much, though every once in a while she'd drop a vague detail like "I think I have a sister" or "I remember playing in a stream as a child." He was always a little more stoic than she was comfortable with, but commented often on how pleased he was that she was doing so well. Many months went by, and she found herself genuinely liking the life she was building, even as she knew it was temporary and couldn't wait to move past it. It really wasn't a bad situation - even if she was still unsure exactly what she would or could do once she got out of it. One day, after about six months,
