An ill-timed tempest

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 118844

It was a long and hard birth, and both To'og and Torin were rather clueless on how to help or even evaluate how it was going. Outside, the rain started light, and then quickly became a deluge, flowing beneath the crack under the large doors. Torin cast minor spells to seal it off while To'og stayed close by Gerkka's side.

After a full day, at last crying split the air as To'og and Gerkka's son emerged into the world. He was the length of a human four-year-old and much, much wider. Torin couldn't decide if he was adorable or repulsive, but as Gerkka cradled him, he found himself smiling.

"What name?" To'og asked tenderly, patting his bald head.

A long time ago, in a time Gerkka was now unsure had ever been real at all, she had already had a name picked out for if she ever had a son. She wasn't sure how To'og would react, but she tried it anyway: "Regus."

To'og pulled a confused face, but considered it for a moment, and proposed, "Reeg?"

She nodded, acquiescing. "Reeg," she agreed.

She began nursing him almost immediately, while Torin turned his full attention to the storm outside, which had only continued to worsen over the last 24 hours.

  1. In fact, it seemed almost... supernaturally intense, and Torin began to wonder in trepidation if it may be an ill omen. It had, after all, started at the same time Gerkka went into labor...
  2. Unexpectedly, shortly afterwards, Gerkka grew very sick. She was deeply unconscious by early the following morning, and To'og angrily demanded that Torin use magic to try to heal her.
  3. Something strange arrived with the rain: water elementals.
  4. The storm went on for many days. Eventually, Torin and/or To'og would need to go out to try to find some food.
