Scrambling out of the river, Astra and Velus started to climb the stairs. They felt relieved that they were on the point of escaping from the domain of the evil dragon Sir Toby, [1157] mingled with sadness at leaving Lord Fred behind. They knew it would be impossible to find him now, though.

Reaching the top of the stairs:

  1. They emerged into a glade surrounded by dense forest.
  2. They were frustrated to find a locked iron grille barring the way out.
