Velus, overcome with the return to his human form seems to have trouble
finding his voice, but eventually after the shock has subsided a nervous
jumpy tone characterises his speech which eventually becomes more and more
confident as the story rambles on. It turns out Velus' village was attacked
by the dragon (a point Lord fred remembers he had trouble understanding
with the yes\no barks system) because the villagers had developed a method
of how to dye their clothes. This in itself was not the problem but the
villagers had a callous dis-regard for the well-being of the surrounding
countryside and had dumped many a failed concoction into the nearby river
which fed a lake inside the caves. Creatures from all around fell ill
drinking the water and in the caves, where alternate water supplies are
non-existant much damage had been caused. The dragon decided to curse the
village such that they would "Taste firsthand the poison they had wrought".
At this point You notice that Velus face is locked in an angry grimace. "I
told them not to do it, but they wouldn't listen to me and sent me away to
fetch wood for the fires, This meant I was the first to suffer at the hands
of the dragon". Velus relaxes somewhat
"It's so unfair, why won't people think, now they're all barely sentient
animals and are drinking the water and getting sick"
"I'm afraid it will be most difficult to undo this spell, for the dragon
has cast his curse to defend those who cannot" The princess intones
"Breaking curses is a difficult task, and due to the lyrical nature of
curses you're better finding a poet than a magic wielder to undo it, I can
never get around the laws of words, I much prefer runes"
The pair look to you, Velus looking at you with a look like a lost dog
(obviously curses can't be undone so easily), the Princess' smile shining
brightly.
"I don't know what to do, my village doesn't deserve to be saved...yet I
miss my family and worry about them, I can still lead you to the dragon if
you would like..."
"I still need to destroy this dragon, as protective as he is he is still
causing our countries much pain" again the princess' smile bewitches you,
in her gaze you feel completely safe and 10 men tall...
