And so Nate and Bella packed up their scant belongings, the latter weeping silently for her lost beauty all the while, and began on a long journey north. They would first have to pass across some fairly innocuous plains before navigating through a deep wood until they finally reached the mountain range where the witch made her home halfway up one of the first peaks they would encounter. As they traveled, Nate talked, though not constantly, and Bella appreciated the effort he put into getting responses out of her, even if they couldn't be verbal. He tried telling her he still thought she was beautiful, but this invariably led her to burst again into tears. They crossed the grasslands in about three days with little fuss. Nate hunted and foraged while Bella sat there helplessly, preoccupied with the still-strange feeling of her mouth and lamenting her lost beauty. She kept the veil Phelyp had made on at all times, ashamed to show her face even to Nate, and reveling in the constant reminder of her beloved by wearing always this gift from him. She could not wait to put all this ugliness behind her and marry him. They reached the woods, which frightened Bella, though she felt like slapping herself; she had been a knight once, and now here she was, a mincing, waifish maid, ready to swoon at the sight of some shady trees! But... well, she could never be a knight again. She had chosen Phelyp. She once again began to cry, overwhelmed, but they struck into the treeline, and the forest swallowed them up. Not much light made it down to the forest floor. They moved slowly and carefully, and eventually Nate took to carrying her for long stretches of time, as they could cover ground faster that way.
