"Oh, my dear," said the vendor, "have you looked in the mirror? If you're after someone, just smile at him and his heart will be yours!" She blushed, appreciating the compliment, but steadfastly insisted with her hand gestures that she wanted to make this purchase. "Very well," the vendor conceded. "Give him the potion, and he will fall deeply in love with the next woman he kisses. Even a peck will trigger it, so just present your hand to him and you're golden!" She paused, and pointed at herself questioningly, but he only smiled and said, "Yes, you, he'll be in love with you!" She wasn't sure how to indicate that she intended to take the potion, or ask whether it would work the same if the genders were reversed, but in the end she let it go, finding no reason it should be different. She went back to the inn and looked at the little red vial for a long time before at last drinking it. It tasted almost disgustingly sweet. The deed done, she threw the bottle away, and anxiously waited for Borovius to return at the end of the day.
