But how would he do this? Transmutations were not easy things. He figured the most straightforward way would probably be to prepare large quantities of food for the parrots with potions cooked into them, and set them all out at the same time. The potions would have to be pretty slow-acting, or the parrots who had not eaten might see the first few transformations and be too alarmed to venture near the food. And it would take a very long time to prepare enough potion to cover an entire island of parrots. Bella, meanwhile, had no notion that there were strangers on the island; she was hidden away in her nest, which she barely ever left, watching over her newest set of eggs. Nate and Fiyono promptly left the island, which couldn't supply the huge quantities of ingredients needed to create all the necessary potions. The venture was becoming very expensive, but Nate was a knight. He took his oaths very seriously, and he still hoped against hope that, once Bella was restored, they could be together. Production of sufficient amounts of the potion took over a year, during which Nate went off to continue his knightly quests, But when all was ready, they met up again, and traveled back to the island, where they put Fiyono's plan into action. The large basins of food they set up around the island were quickly flocked by male parrots, who ate some for themselves and, presumably, would regurgitate the food into most females' mouths. (Nate shuddered at the thought, hoping against hope that he could still save Bella from this fate.) Bella, at the time, was raising two very young daughters. When a male she recognized alighted at her nest, she gratefully accepted his offered food for her family. And about a half hour after he flew away, her babies began to chirrup in distress, and she began to feel very strange.
