A Knight for a Knight

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 118126

Lila felt a wide variety of emotions at the very same time at the sight. Her heart sank as she considered that she had once been a knight who had unwittingly walked into great peril, and how very much the tables had now turned. At the same time, she was glad that it was a knight, somebody who had understood and accepted that he was embarking on a mission he might not return from. But there was gladness at something else mixed in as well: a knight like this was perhaps the most likely person of all to commit himself to following an old woman off the road to make sure she was safe. He would be easy prey.

She pushed every single one of these feelings down, adopted her best doddering look, and made sure she was in full view of the knight as she wandered idly around the edge of the road.

The knight stopped, lifting his visor. He was very young, younger even than Fred had been. A single golden curl fell over his forehead. "What ho!" he cried. "Madam, my name is Sir Willard Blessington of Pisuge. Are you in need of any assistance?"

Lila only gave a wan smile, shaking her head. She began ambling off the road, in the direction of Ginnie's home.

"Madam!" cried Sir Will. "Please, it is not safe for you to be out here alone. Allow me to escort you to your destination. I am sworn to protect ones such as yourself."

You and me both, thought some distant part of Lila's mind. She stumbled a bit—not an affected mannerism, but one that seemed to work to her advantage, for Sir Will sprang forward, grasping her shoulders to steady her. Lila was used to feeling small, but not usually as a human. But this knight? He was a full foot and a half taller than she was, and covered from head to toe in heavy plate armor. She felt very small indeed, and very helpless. And... and this was the form she was so desperate to keep? But there was no denying it was leagues better than the alternative...

  1. Sir Will willingly followed her to Ginnie's property. Not long after they had arrived, Ginnie appeared from the mist, grinning fiendishly, and waved her hand. Sir Will instantly crumpled, deeply asleep.
  2. Sir Will willingly followed her to Ginnie's property. However, just before entering Ginnie's property, Lila abruptly realized she could not do this. She miserably resolved to lead him in circles until her transformation wore off, then escape in the grass.
  3. Sir Will was more forceful than she'd have expected or liked, and—clearly believing her to be an anile old woman—gently but firmly insisted she come with him to the nearest village. She was incapable of refusing.
