A thrill of unbearable excitement shuddered through the crowd. The Queen explained that she would send her servants out into the community to live amongst them for a time, and at a certain point would begin offering positions to those whom they deemed worthy candidates. At this point, assuming they accepted, these candidates would be brought back to the Queen's realm to be evaluated by her and be officially inducted into her court. There was no question in any fairy's mind, upon hearing this news, of being anything less than their best. Nobody would dare let an opportunity like this slip through their fingers. Frita and Arion whispered excitedly with each other and with their friends as they waited to introduce themselves with some of the Queen's representatives. For the following several moons, Frita, in identical fashion to all around her, worked slavishly to be the best fairy she could be. She sang beautifully, created stunning clothing and art, cared for the creatures of the forest, spent hours each morning on her appearance, and gave her all to her community. Every once in a while, she still felt a niggling doubt that Amaralis's court was really where she was meant to be, but she shook it away roughly each time, fearing that even the slightest reservation would show and ruin her chances to go live in what was sure to be a place of absolute beauty and light. Arion supported her, and she him, in their endeavors, and they talked so much of how desperately they hoped to both be selected. It was not long before Frita's awareness of the passage of time began to dull. This motivation was at the forefront of her mind, and the more she thought about it, the less she cared about how much time was going by. Time shouldn't matter to fey. It would be improper of her to give it any thought. The representatives lived among the fairies of the home tree, offering their own talents to the advancement of beauty within the community, and oftentimes the fairies would forget they were being observed by them. But all the same, the place remained a superb example of fairykind, as each member of the community put his or her best foot forward, every single day. Eventually, the offers began to start. Frita and Arion first heard of a friend of a friend who had received such an offer, and their efforts climbed towards mania. Nobody tried harder than Frita—she who sometimes doubted her place here. She had to prove to more than everyone else that she was a perfect example of her kind—she had to prove it to herself as well.
