"Ivo is the one. I know that, in a previous life, you thought it was up to you. But it never was. Ivo is the one. You could have ruined everything. But I knew how desperately you wanted to be the one to save the kingdom. So I have fulfilled your wish, albeit in a way I am sure most would deem unconventional." Belboz sighed. "You must disappear, and it must be the dragon's fault—known as of yet only to a few, it has recently awoken. Ivo will then rise, at last, to fulfill his destiny, in vengeance of you. He will do it. He will slay the dragon." He watched Hannah's sleeping form thoughtfully, and at length continued, "But how best to set it up? It mustn't appear suspicious. Many things have to go right. Or I could go the simpler route... Over a decade in the making, we're in the final stretch, and I'm still figuring out the best way to go about it." He shook his head. "But fret not, Fred. You will contribute to something glorious. And though you cannot return to your true form, not ever, neither shall you die. I will make sure of that."

It took some time. But at last Belboz decided on his plan, and set it into motion.

  1. Through a series of illusions and enchantments, he made it appear that a dragon cult had kidnapped Hannah and offered her to the dragon. In actuality, he made the offer himself.
  2. Through only a lie and a minor spell to make it seem more believable, he made Hannah's friends and family believe that she had been in a town the dragon burned to the ground. In actuality, to keep her out of the way, he transfigured Hannah one last time.
  3. Disguised as a rival wizard, Belboz broke into the garden while the couple was there and "disintegrated" Hannah in the name of the dragon before flying off. In actuality, he only conjured a pile of dust, and changed Hannah into an unassuming stone.
