The Never Ending Quest - Episode 117971

Fred knew that he was likely to have time for only one blow before the dragon turned its head enough to breath fire at him, probably lethally. His body was covered by the flamebane mail, but his head was unprotected. He lunged, putting his whole weight behind the thrust, and aiming at the side of the dragon's neck, where he hoped the beast would have relatively little protection from its scales. By concentrating all the force of his strike at one point, he thought he had a far better chance of penetrating than if he used the side of his blade for a slash or chop.

  1. His blade went in a good six inches and, from the amount of greenish blood that began to spurt out, it looked as though he had severed a major blood-vessel.
  2. But the beast's hide was so tough that it took most of the impetus out of the blow, and his sword penetrated only an inch or so.
  3. But the sword-tip hit a scale and was deflected away.
