"I imagine it would be safer for you to wait here rather than at the far end," Fred said. "Also there's more chance of my being able to hide my supplies and sword somewhere they are unlikely to be seen if anyone happens to come by, rather than your being able to conceal yourself. So I think I'd better take my sword and supplies through first and then come back for you."

"Very well," Maggie said.

Having got out of the water, she put her boots back on, as Fred disappeared into the tunnel. After a while:

  1. He reached the far end.
  2. He discovered why Maggie had found the water to be so much warmer by the time it emerged in the dragon's bathing area.
  3. He was startled when he came to a fork in the tunnel. It must go to two destinations rather than one. Maggie had clearly been unaware of this. Which way should he go?
