Three Coins

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 117855

Fred stood still and thought. How had he arrived here again? Took the right of the two entrances. Went toward a light. There was an old man chanting, but he had ignored the man and sneaked past to a room with chests. Gold chest led to a secret passage. Went down ladder. Continue down, ignoring voices and metal sounds into wine cellar. Ladder pulled up and someone laughed, but Fred had not seen any creatures since then. This was fine with him. He hoped to see few creatures until he found the dragon. Had to use his own light at this point. Went north, and found this stream, and tried to follow it outside to get bearings. And here he was.

Fred had one piece of luck. The stream had been bigger at one time. The banks of the stream were almost level, and wide enough to allow him to pass without getting wet. The roof of the cave was high, too. He did not know whether his luck would still hold when he reached the point where the stream fed into the underground river.

As he approached the river, he saw something flash on the ground. He stooped and looked. Three coins were arranged in a triangle. Its apex pointed away from the river.

Fred thought about this. These coins did not just drop out of someone's purse. The pattern was regular. Someone deliberately arranged these. Had someone already come this way, and left these as a trail marker? If so, it was interesting that they were pointing away from the direction he was headed. Or were these more than just coins - perhaps there was something more to them then just their value of their metal?

If he looked closer, he might be able to learn a few things. Could he identify where they were struck, and when? Were they all from the same kingdom? This information might give him some insight as to who had left the coins and when.

  1. Fred picked up one of the coins, and held it closer to his light.
  2. Fred decided not to disturb the coins.
