Uncanny Fred

The encounter almost went well. Upon spotting Fred in her disheveled, vulnerable state, the couple initially reacted with concern. From the questions they asked, they seemed to think this mystery girl had fallen victim to an attack of some kind. The woman even started to get her boyfriend to offer his coat (after giving him a swat for staring).

Unfortunately, things began to go wrong as Fred drew closer. Having only relearned how to walk a few minutes ago, she was still in no state to handle the finer details of being human such as answering simple questions coherently, altering her facial expressions, or trying to preserve her modesty when naked. Thus, she came across as rather creepy and unnatural. The couple's concern soon turned to wary discomfort as this deadpan, deathly pale girl shambled nearer.

As the final straw, the largest roach that managed to hold on until now, a big leggy one with dark colored wings, chose this moment to crawl up Fred's cheek and across her forehead to burrow itself in her hair. Of course, this brought no reaction from her, further cementing her as something inhuman. Instantly, the couple recoiled and walked away.

Fred started to follow, which made them retreat even faster. Having no other option, however, she kept after them until they broke into a terrified run. She considered running too but thought better of it, not wishing to risk falling again. Instead, she just maintained her halting pace along the beaten path.

Eventually, her persistence was rewarded by a glimpse of thatched rooftops in the distance. At last, she had found civilization!

1. Fred arrived in town and tried to find help.
2. Fred arrived only to be met by a fearful mob. It seemed the couple had spread the word.
3. Before she could make it to the town's edge, she is stopped by a hermit living on the outskirts.
4. Before she could reach the town, she is stopped by bandits.
5. Before she could reach the town, she falls into a pit and gets stuck.
