The simple prospect of going outside was at once overwhelmingly exciting and completely terrifying. The poor girl had not felt the sun on her skin for about two years, and at first she thought she might go blind, as she followed Belboz out of the tunnels onto the hillside, wincing and cowering behind him.

  1. He took her to meet the general and a few other soldiers of Aqualaria in a large open field, where he would be testing a variety of potions meant for warfare - turning her into huge creatures and even siege engines.
  2. He planned to administer a potion he'd already tested, one which would turn her into a goblin, and see if she would draw any suspicion from a clan of natural-born goblins.
  3. He wanted to try a variety of mind-altering enchantments in different Allarian villages and see how she handled herself among other people.
