Fred decided to send his two djinn back to their lamps while he thought things through. He had realized that it was wrong for a knight such as himself to convert unwilling women into djinn, but the fact was that he now had control over two djinni who could really help him in his quest to slay the dragon. He needed to know ahead of time how to best use his powerful allies, and wanted time alone to think.
Astra and Maria thus were sent back into their lamps to await their next summons. What none of them knew is that a djinn lamp emitted a "field" that affected the perspectives of any djinn inside the lamp. It did not "brainwash" them, per se, but it made them more comfortable with being a djinn and accepting the limitations and restrictions that went along with being a djinn. The longer a djinn remained inside the lamp, the more content they would be with their status, and with obeying the orders of whoever was the Master of the lamp. Thus, as Astra and Maria awaited Fred, each became more and more comfortable with their new status in life.
