The toad woke up some time later. It felt strange for a moment, thinking it was not where it should be, but shortly thereafter it realized it was at a lovely pond with other toads, so what more, really, could it ask for? The nymphs had sensed a deep sadness in the toad that had approached them, so they had given her the blessing of happiness instead. They were known among men to be tempters, almost, luring people into water with their songs, but the fact was, they made people happy to be in their lovely homes, and the same worked on all manner of animals as well! Perhaps the toad once called Fred had not quite had her memories from before her toady days erased, but she no longer had any need to look back on them. She was simply a toad! Not a knight, not an adventurer, not even Fred. Just a little toad. What a lovely, simple life she had. Why she even, with the nymphs' blessing, would likely live much longer than most toads in the wild did! Each year, the toad that had once been Fred did her toady duty through hibernation, mating season, and the feeding period, never once thinking of going against the grain. She was completely and totally indiscernible from any of the other toads. Which was very good, because differences often attracted predators! Couldn't have that! The nymphs were glad to share their simple joy in the wonder of nature with the animals of the pond. Life was good.
