Freeing Fred

"He's right," Astra said. "We can't just leave him to his fate."

"What part of 'no back-talk' did you not understand?"

As a princess, Astra wasn't used to being talked to like that, and certainly not by someone whom she suspected was an Aqualarian and thus one of her mother's subjects. (She didn't know of any other country that had a corps of engineers, and even if one did she suspected that all the corps' members would be male.) "But...," she started to object.

"Oh very well then, free him if you must. It will probably be quicker than arguing with you."

As she unlocked Fred's shackles, Astra asked Clara: "What did you mean when you said we had to get Nora out of the way? You aren't going to kill her, are you?"

1. "No, of course not. I wouldn't have bothered to gag her with a piece of bread if I was going to do that."
2. "Yes. It's regrettable, but necessary."
