Muriel stood in the stable, stroking her fingers down Hannah's long nose. She was now in the form of an appaloosa, and readily nuzzled Muriel and ate out of her hands, still recognizing her as her mother. Muriel knew that Belboz had a reason for doing this, but something still felt so wrong, in a distant corner of her mind. "Hannah?" she asked quietly, and the mare fixed her dark eyes on her in recognition of the name. "Are you happy like this?" Hannah only tossed her mane in response, and Muriel, unsure of how to interpret this, wrapped her arms around Hannah's neck and hugged her tight. "Well," she whispered, "at least we're all still together." At this moment Belboz led in a beautiful Arabian mare. Now this mare had also been a knight previously, a friend of Fred's in fact—Sir Ricardo O'Farrell of Allaria. What could he say? Belboz had a thing for messing with knights. In any case the creature was in a similar boat as Hannah—memories retained, but panic replaced by contentment—except he hadn't been transformed into a little girl in between. Muriel regarded the Arabian with a touch of aversion, though she was enchanted by its beauty. "Where'd this one come from, then?" "No need to worry about that, my sweet. She's of fine stock and will serve you well. What would you like to name her?" "Well... I did always like the name Angel." "A lovely name indeed," said Belboz. "Hannah and Angel, our mounts. Now that you've spent some time as a horse, dear, you'll have a very good idea of how to handle one. We'll make a fine riding pair, you and I!" "I suppose we will," Muriel said, and she had to smile at his conviction. Thus began a season of beautiful lengthy rides around the countryside. It was truly lovely, until one day...
