An Offer

Now, it doesn't take a saint to know you shouldn't even consider selling off your family, but, well, Belboz was far from a saint. He knew Arahim's ventures were funded by the king and this would be a very lucrative deal. He stared down at Hannah, watching as she finished licking up the treat and pushed her quivering snout into his hand, seeking more. As he did, Muriel ambled into the room.

If he sold them, there wasn't really any going back. He couldn't very well steal them from Arahim if he, one day, discovered that he missed their human selves. That might be fine, he could get himself a new wife and child... but there was also the chance, albeit a small one, that somebody, most likely Arahim himself, would uncover what these pigs had once been.

But the offer was tempting...

1. "All right, then," Belboz found himself saying. "You've got yourself a deal."
2. "Sorry, my old friend," said Belboz. "They're not for sale."
