"What?" said Silvyr, shocked, and Frita, hearing Taurill calling her name, smiled and said, "Talk later!" and promptly flew off. Samuel, for his part, was left blank with shock. Did that mean what he thought it meant? Had Frita, too, once been human? She didn't look it, not at all. Immediately once Frita was gone, a horde of other fairies descended on Samuel, calling him Silvyr and complimenting his new tunic. Later that day, over dinner, he found Frita again. He had been gradually learning how to fly, and had to admit he loved it, but he wanted his life back. "Hey, Frita?" he said. "I had some questions about--" "Oh, what I said? That's nothing, forget I even mentioned it. In any case I don't recall anything of use to you." She was so dismissive! "But don't you miss--" She sighed, and got up, telling Taurill, who was seated next to her, she'd be back soon. She hustled Samuel to a place out of earshot and said, "Look, I don't particularly care to mention it. It's a point of embarrassment. Humans are disgusting." Again he was shocked. "You sound exactly like a fairy. Is that what's going to happen to me? Will I begin to hate humans?" "No, my transformation was different, not the work of other fairies. At least, I don't think so. Oh, it was a long time ago." "How long? Who were you before?" "I'm afraid I don't quite recall, nor do I care to. Now, stop making yourself miserable! Come, eat with us." Samuel had to admit he was indeed hungry, and reluctantly followed Frita back to her friends. They chattered endlessly about the shallowest of things, and Samuel quickly grew tired of it, but they seemed like decent folk, he supposed. They certainly cared deeply for each other.
