Hannendine knew she could find her sister without help, and she knew how to convince her father to stay behind--and so, by playing up the "this is my chance to prove myself" angle, she managed to get her father to agree to let her go on her own. After quickly throwing some supplies in a bag and donning a simple dress and traveler's cloak, she left her home on her own for the first time in her life. She had a twenty-minute walk through the forest before she reached the nearest village, but the first thing she did, before her father even went inside, was cast a spell that would show her the path she should take. A faint glow illuminated a path forward, and she began to walk, waving goodbye to her father.
