Velus Reconnoitres

"There's another stairway descending from this observation deck besides the one we came up," Astra pointed out. "My guess is that it leads down into the market. It would be useful if we could reconnoitre what lies ahead of us if we go that way - and if we are to go onward, then I don't see any other route that we could take. It would be difficult for Fred or me to carry out a recce without drawing attention to ourselves. A small dog, however, should not arouse suspicion. Would you be willing, Velus?"

Velus barked his assent, and went down the stairway out of Fred and Astra's view. Whilst they waited for him to come back, Fred and Astra pased the time by telling each other about their respective native lands.

1. A couple of hours later, Velus returned.
2. Before Velus could come back, Fred and Astra were discovered.
3. Outside the cavern, night eventually fell, and light ceased to enter through the crack. Velus still hadn't returned.
