They all lived in the large coastal city of Wedgemore, capital of the relatively small kingdom of Daelry which bordered Macedonia. They had grown up in a particularly prosperous time in the city, so the family, previously very poor fishermen, were now able to find apprenticeship in real careers they would enjoy. They had all found jobs in different areas--Henry wa sa blacksmith, Rowan a shopkeeper, Cassius a baker, Quinlan a fletcher, and Orrin training to be a member of the royal guard. Jane, herself, was at heart a homeowner, and spent much of her free time on knitting and embroidery, and making a bit of coin by selling most of what she made. She currently was engaged to be married to a young farmhand, but her brothers had been too busy with their careers to get involved in relationships. It made her sad, and so she resolved to help them along. She quickly spirited the five women she had made out of Fred to her family home, of which she was now the sole owner since her parents' recent death, and as they sat there woozy and barly conscious, she administered a different love potion to each of them, so that each woman would fall in love with the brother for whom she had been crafted. Of course, the effects would not kick in until they actually saw the object of their magically imposed affections, which Jane would make sure happened at the village festival tonight. They planned to attend as a family, though they always did, and in the past Jane's brothers had always left after about an hour. She gave each woman a sleeping potion so they all spent the next few hours unconscious. Finally, starting about two hours before the festival, one by one she woke them up and helped them select pretty jewelry and do their hair for the festival. They were, of course, absolutely bewildered and disoriented, but Jane treated the situation as normal, making mention that they were poor travelers passing through the town, and that Jane had offered a place to stay for the night. Now, each woman recalled certain parts of being Fred, but because of grogginess brought on by all the sleeping potions, had no memory of their transformation and no notion that the other four women were also parts of Fred! Jane, seeing that their fogginess and puzzlement wasn't really improving, dropped another mention that they had all suffered head injuries upon being knocked out and robbed just outside the city gates, which seemed to them to explain all their issues. The one Jane had called "Ermentrude" asked hesitantly, "So do... do we know each other?" as indeed, they all felt a sort of fami.liarity towards one another, but also had the strong feeling they had never met before. Jane said she wasn't sure--perhaps you had all met on the road fairly recently?" They nodded slowly, accepting of this, and Jane went on, "Let's get your mind off of things--the festival is about to begin!" The women felt no desire to attend a festival, but they went along with it. And upon meeting Jane's brothers--well, they were smitten immediately, though they didn't know why, and it felt, somehow, deeply wrong. The brothers took notice that they were all quite pretty, and all their ages correlated with their own, and were mildly suspicious of Jane, but the gentlemanly thing to do was ask them to dance, so they did.
