Plot convenience can be either a life saver, or a cheap tactic to write your way out of a corner after a storyline or script has gotten too confusing or incomprehensible to figure out. It's been a common author tactic in the world of interactive fiction, dating all the way back to the early days of Addventure in the mid nineties, and especially exploited in the defunct versions of Horsehockey, the Never Ending Quest, and any other site you can name. And plot convenience was the catalyst to the explosion that destroyed an apartment building in a large, unnamed American city, killing you, the woman you were trying to romance behind your girlfriend's back, and everyone else inside of it. Scores of people nearby were also severely injured or killed outright. It's only a matter of time before firefighters, police officers, and National Guardsmen arrive on the scene to take control. The mayor and state governor are quick to declare an emergency and apply for federal emergency aid. However, our wonderful President refuses to hear this request, simply because the disaster took place in a blue state. And he was too busy playing golf and finding other excuses to tank the country to distract the world from the fact that his name is all over some very damaging files.
