The five women, who had already vaguely reasoned that it was probably impossible to return to their original wholeness if any of them was missing, were fearful to hear that they would be psychologically/emotionally impacted as well, and from that point onward tried much harder to learn the dances and rules that Jane was trying to teach them. The ball began, and the five met, to them for the first time (though not to anyone else), their parents, King Karo and Queen Angela, and their brothers, Gavin (32), Joel (28), and Ever (19). Gavin and Joel were married with children of their own, but the women had already learned too many names to reliably be able to remember any more for now. They did their best, trying to please Jane. They didn't particularly like the way the men at the ball looked at them, even those who looked in perfectly innocent admiration of their beauty.
