When Nadia and Gailen managed to squeeze their way underneath the door of the study, and Frita's eyes fell on Gailen, they widened as far as they could, even against the sunlight filtered in through the window. She began emitting raspy grunts, her tongue lolling around, pointing at herself with her eyes fixed on him. They were both bewildered by this reaction, and, being fairies, wrinkled their noses as a matter of instinct as they gazed upon the ugly thing. Nadia said to Gailen, "It seems to recognize you..." "I've never seen it before," said Gailen confusedly. "It's hideous." Frita could not hear what they said through the glass, but she knew it was her Arion. She also knew she could not reasonably expect him to recognize her, but she still shook her hands around desperately, trying to think of a way to make real contact. Gailen stared at the creature, and murmured, "But it does seem... familiar..." They were still connected, bound eternally, even if his beloved had been transformed. But Gailen thought that he was bound to Nadia, and therefore could not rationalize his feeling pulled towards this ugly creature. Still, he turned to Nadia. "We must free it." She nodded slowly. "Of course... of course." Doing so was a quick matter of shrinking it so it could fit through one of the air holes - which only Nadia could do, using her wand, the only one between them. But when Nadia started to try lifting it up towards the open window, Gailen said, "Nadia, could we... perhaps... keep it with us? Care for it?" She stared at him, aghast. "Gailen... My love... imagine having to look at it every day!" On hearing her Arion being called "Gailen" and "my love," both of which were more than concerning for different reasons, Frita began to thrash in midair, rasping and grunting and gargling in anger and confusion. Nadia gestured towards it as a means of asking if Gailen really wanted to deal with this behavior, but he only said, "Please?" She sighed. She couldn't say no to him. "Very well."
