The girl's name was Evanora, and early in her childhood they had all noted her natural knack for magic. Quickly it became obvious that she would grow up to be a very powerful sorceress. She was eight years old now, with long black hair to her feet and skin pale like the moon, and all her magics were greater than those of both her parents and her uncle Dalamar combined. But she was a conscientious girl, as her mother and father had taught her since they'd realized how special she was to control her abilities. Still, sometimes she took on a certain intensity none of them had ever seen before in a child, and she could frighten them. Dalamar had taken a special interest in her development at first, but in recent years a fear had begun to grow in him at the depth of her power. Still, he tried to check in on the regular and be a good influence. And he always gave her a birthday present - normally nothing extravagant, as her parents didn't want to spoil her, and it was difficult to come up with something she couldn't conjure for herself. But this time, he'd just been so busy, he hadn't given it a thought until the family was almost at his doorstep. He'd invited them a month before and practically forgotten instantly. So, he went looking in his storeroom, found the still-sleeping fairies, and decided Evanora would like them. He quickly wrapped them up in pretty paper and ribbons and was just adding the finishing touches to dinner when his sister and her husband and daughter came knocking. They had a lovely meal, and when they had finished eating, Dalamar presented his niece with her gifts. She opened them with care, and gazed silently for a long moment at the two sleeping fairies suspended within the jars. Eventually she lifted her eyes to her uncle and said,
