The Never Ending Quest - Episode 115740

He'd already put it off far too long. It was time.

He induced a magical sleep in the cow, and finally entered the enclosure with her after moving her baby to a separate area. He sprinkled magical powder over the animal and chanted various incantations. Finally, there was a dim glow all around the creature, and there, lying in the grass, was a human woman. For the most part, she looked perfectly average - average figure, average height, average skin tone. The only notable difference was the color of her hair: black and white.

Romestám quickly used magic to clothe her in a simple tunic, and he picked her up to lay her back down on top of a blanket, but he left her in the pasture, just sitting there waiting for her to wake up. It seemed unwise to put her in a new environment in addition to changing her shape.

It was several hours when she woke up, slowly blinking her large brown eyes. Romestám held his breath until those eyes fixed on him, and then dared to attempt communication.

After he'd given her mind a little time to clear, it soon became evident that

  1. her mind was utterly unchanged from how it had been when she was a cow. She didn't speak, she was very slow, and she seemed to actively hate him now as she realized that her body had been changed and her baby was gone.
  2. her memories of her true self were foggy at best, but her human intelligence was slowly coming back.
  3. she remembered who she really was: Sir Fred, a knight of Allaria.
