Hannah, for her part, was absolutely delighted, as now she would live close to other children of her own age. However, now that they were in a bigger home, there was significantly more cleaning to be done, and if anything Muriel became even stricter now that they had appearances to keep up.

The little girl made fast friends with the handful of other young children in the village, but always had to return home early to do all the chores and help her mother cook dinner.

  1. Muriel met a man in the village, and soon she told Hannah that she was going to have a daddy again.
  2. The other village children soon began to tease Hannah, and she came home crying every day.
