You see, each of these women had a personality rooted more or less in one major facet of Fred's. Hannah was caring and protective and brave, Isabella was loyal to the kingdom and a real history nerd, Marigold was prim and proper and "gentlemanly," Ermentrude had something of an inferiority complex, and Katrina was a skilled warrior. None of them had a particularly nuanced personality beyond this, lacking any other traits in Fred that might have somewhat counteracted their dominant ones, and their minds were prone to become fairly muddled and confused if they tried to think of much else, though they technically retained all of Fred's memories--but each of them could only easily access memories in her given area of "expertise."
