By now Hannah was a very small eleven-year-old, only about four feet tall, and Muriel was still a beautiful young woman, as Belboz had been maintaining her appearance magically. Nothing had really changed, and that was the problem. It had all become... boring. Irritating, even. He had been lonely before, but now he found his family stifling. And perhaps he'd grow lonely again after they were gone, but one thing he was sure of: at the very least, he needed a break.

He spent several days pondering what to do with his family. Finally, he decided

  1. to turn them both into stone, to be stored and perhaps revived sometime down the road.
  2. to put them both to sleep, to perhaps be awakened again sometime down the road.
  3. to turn them both into animals, so he would still have company, but more freedom.
  4. to simply transport them to a faraway village.
  5. to wipe their minds and transport them to a faraway village.
  6. to give them as an offering to the dragon.
  7. to lift the love spell on Muriel and restore Sir Fred.
