Not a Dream

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 11494

"Though it might astonish you to know it - you have a vital part to play in all this. By your actions you will ensure that Astra marries Henri. That's bad, I know, but believe me, it's the lesser of two evils."

Fred was amazed. He rubbed his eyes. He must be dreaming like before. He rubbed his eyes again. "Say, how'd you get in here?"

"That's not important young—"

"Sure it is, I mean, we're supposed to have guards to protect us. If any old man with a flowing white beard and dirty robes can traipse right into a heavily guarded outpost holding the royalty of two nations, well, that just sucks."

"Sucks? No, no, you don't understand. I am a wizard, a conjuror, a mage of great power and—"

"Yeah right. If that was true would you need a fifteen-year-old pageboy to do your dirty work? Why not just arrange the marriage yourself?"

"Now see here! I fiddle not with the free will of any mortal, and further more—"

"Put a sock in it, Caldy." Fred was beginning to enjoy this dream, not like the one's he had before. "If you're so all-powerful and all can I have my way with her?"

"Caldy? Your way? Let's get something straight right from the start, you have a destiny! I scried it in the waters of my dish. Within the smoky embers of my hearth I saw your face: Frederigo, son of Charles D'Honaire. You are slated for greatness if only you embrace the force of virtue and compassion."

"And then I'll grow up to be a dragon-killer, right?"

"Eh? What are you babbling about? I'm talking about the war against the Aqualarians! Bah!" And with that the mage raised his arms and disappeared in a flash of light and a puff of smoke.

This alerted the guards that something was not right and upon rushing the thatch hut of the diplomat's son, they discovered a very startled youth. "You mean... it wasn't a dream?" said Fred ready to piss his pants. "Oh, crud."

  1. Fred spends the next hour explaining what happened to his father.
  2. Suddenly the outpost was attacked by naked men screaming "Josh is Lord!"
  3. The next day, at day break, the Queen comes back to the Diplomat and says she will not marry Prince Henri; her culture, her traditions just won't allow it, even if it means the downfall of her people.
