"All right," Stacy said. "I'll see you there at six o'clock on Thursday
then, shall I?"
"I'd rather not wait that long, given that you've translated the scroll.
I'll see you
there at six this evening, OK?" Stacy looked at the clock on the wall. The
time
was just after 4:30. "OK," she said. "Bye," said the man, and he hung up.
Stacy again had need of a Yellow Pages, this time to find out where the Telos cybercafe was. She found her copy, and discovered that the cybercafe was only a couple of blocks away. That meant she had well over an hour before she need leave her apartment. Stacy spent part of the time in writing down her translation of the scroll on a sheet of paper. Then she had a thought. The way the man on the phone had spoken, it sounded as though he had thought that translating the scroll would have been a time-consuming business, whereas actually it had only taken her a matter of minutes. Could that mean she had deliberately given him a wrong impression, to play for time? That would imply that she had had doubts as to whether he could be trusted.
