Trash a-Go-Go

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 114004

Josh Burbank takes up to ten minutes carefully reviewing the legal papers he and Beth were summoned with earlier in the day. He understands about 75 percent of what he's reading, but a quarter of it is written in legalese which he just kind of glosses over since there's no time to turn to the nearest law book or Google search to find out what so-and-so means by such-and-such.

After he reads it over for a second time, Josh wordlessly stands up clutching the paperwork and makes a beeline for the kitchen.

"Josh?" Beth asks. "Where are you going?"

A few seconds later, Beth hears the familiar sound of papers hitting a plastic trash bag. Now, she stands and practically sprints into the dining room slash kitchen. As she might have guessed, she finds Josh standing next to the trash, hands in the air and with a look of victory on his face.

"What the hell are you doing, Josh?"
"I just solved all of your problems, baby! Now we don't have to go to court at all!"
"Josh, throwing away a legal summons doesn't invalidate the fact that we have to go to court to defend ourselves!"
"Sure it does! Out of sight, out of mind!"
"Oh, my god..."

Beth swiftly pushes her dumbass boyfriend out of the way and looks into the trashcan. Thankfully, they had put out a bag this morning, so this was a new fresh bag with nothing else contaminating the legal paperwork that they were presented with earlier. Beth quickly pulls the papers from the trash.

"Josh, didn't you keep doing this in school when you flunked a test or assignment and the teacher wanted your parents to sign it and bring it back to the teacher? You just threw everything away and got in bigger trouble when the teacher came around to collect and you told him or her that you threw it away and your parents 'didn't need' to sign it! This isn't grade school, Josh! We could be in serious trouble!"

  1. "How so?" asks an incredulous Josh.
  2. Josh continues to insist that throwing away a legal summons automatically invalidates a lawsuit.
  3. Just then, Josh's parents and two of his grade school teachers arrive at the townhouse...
