"You shall heretofore be known as Elsynne," the Queen announced. "Whom do you serve?" Elsynne bowed even more deeply, if that was even possible. "You, my Queen," she replied, voice trembling with reverence. Pleased, Amaralis said, "Rise. We have a very long journey ahead of us." The other fairies knew what this newcomer had been, of course, and most of them felt no particular desire to mingle with her. Some were kind to her, but nobody had any intention of telling her what she had been. Why would they? She was better off like this anyway. Being a fairy was the best thing in the world. Their journey lasted another year. Throughout all this time, Elsynne never wondered where she had come from. It was part of the enchantment. All she knew, all she needed to know, was how to keep the Queen happy. She was a good worker, but all those under such an enchantment were; currently, she was the only once-human servant the Queen had. Amaralis was kind to her, and in her mind she had done nothing wrong. This was how fairies thought. When they finally arrived at the castle, situated on a remote island, to Elsynne it was like seeing the promised land. Here she would live out her days serving the Queen, and it really was beautiful.
